1957 dual quad?
Is this one of the rare '57 dual quads? Water neck is in the opposite side compared to the '56 style but the part number looks the same. Pics for comparison, '56 with the carbs off, the other is the mystery one.

Jon has made mention that 6 were made, 3 auto and 3 manual applications, he said he was actually working on one a while back. Matter of fact you asked him the same question lol.

I agree. It's got the same developmental part number yet no generator mount and the water outlet is on the opposite side.

Is there any date code? The whole front of the manifold looks different. No generator cast mounting and water outlet on the drivers side.. Could you take some more pictures from all sides and top and bottom. Especially the linkage side.
Jack, the very earliest printing of the 57 master parts book, Augest 56 I think. have parts listed for the 57 2x4. Jon will have some interesting comments. Thats a very rare manifold |

Agreed, it doesn't have the cast "leg" of the '56, but I wouldn't say "no mount". Those two raised bosses look identical to my '61 SD Tri-Power, which I have used for a generator mount (with some forgotten combination of early Pontiac pieces).

About 12 years ago I talked to a fellow on the phone who claimed to have a pontiac cast iron 2x4 manifold. That manifold he said didn't have a cast leg for a generator. For that reason he thought it was a 1959 casting. I was hoping to see a date code to clear this up.

I'll message the seller and see if we can get a date code. I wonder if the numbers on the water neck could be researched. Looks like 6098 then 0097 under that? I blew up the pic but the numbers got more fuzzy.

Response from seller
The only numbers on the intake is the d-32960, which is common with performance items made for the nascar teams. This is a special intake compared to the other ones I have seen. The intake itself is different and the shape of the casting numbers is different than all the others I have seen. I was told by the previous owner that it was used by the 1956 pontiac nascar team but I have nothing on paper to back that up. It is a one of a kind unit, I was going to put it on a 1956 pontiac and make a nascar tribute car but plans have changed.

[QUOTE=56 Batwing;John the very earliest printing of the 57 master parts book, Augest 56 I think. have parts listed for the 57 2x4.]
John my memory isn't as good as I believe. The 57 master parts book printed in Aug was not a 57 at all, it is a 1956 master parts book, and has no mention of any 57 2x4 parts. I have a 1957 master parts book, printed on Nov 1st 1957, it does have a "Heavy-Duty Parts Section, for cars equipped with dual four-barrel carburetor." This heavy duty section does have some 57 2x4 parts listed in the heavy-duty parts section. Mostly parts the 57 shares in common with the 1956 2x4. But not any of the main parts, heads carbs intake manifold etc. The HD heading goes on to say the the 2x4 parts that are common to all models ,are listed in their respective groups. A example you can look up, "Group 3.726, Gasket, carburetor to manifold". You will find a listing for a gasket for " 1957 P/8 w/dual 4 BC" I do remember a list of 57 2x4 parts that I saw at some time in the past, I'll keep looking for that list. Sorry for the bad info in the original post. Jack |
