Default 1964 Headlamp bezels

Ebay is listing new repro headlamp doors (bezels) and wonder if anyone has purchased any? Quality/fit? Shine doesn`t look very bright in photo also.

From the first picture, the sheen is what you would expect of polished or anodized aluminum. The seller states the 3rd and 4th pictures are of the prototypes and are most likely not polished or anodized. Looks to be a nice piece of a very sought after item. Nice to see someone is reproducing these. Maybe the grills are next?

I tried to purchase these, but the seller insists that I call and speak to them. It went down like this-

ME: These look pretty good. My car is nice, but not a #1 show car, so that is my expectation. I'd be happy to give these a try and write a report
Andre

REPLY- i don't want someone to give them a try and write a report until after they have called and we have both determined they will work. i am like this will all items i sell on ebay. i am not sure why someone would insist on taking more time by not calling and not guaranteeing a smooth transaction

ME:This is because ebay wants a record of all communication. Id call, but i didnt see a number in the ebay listing

REPLY:i really do not care what ebay wants they are not the ones fighting with the customer about who pays for shipping back when a buyer does not do his homework before buying. you sell on ebay you know how fuc_ ed up it can be. if you look at the full description my number is listed.

Thats enough for me. If these are any good, I'll wait for Ames to get them and sell them. As a matter of fact, I'll call there right now and see what they have to say about it.

When I first spotted the ebay item, I noted he was trying to distance himself from the quality and said " I am no engineer" and not super picky. He then blames your cage nuts for the ill fit. This is why I first posted. Something seems amiss here. He then offers a testimonial by an unknown buyer. So if you call you can then make an offer on the items? Strange to say the least. Wish he would post here and give us a little more info. However, looking at his total sales....impressive to say the least and with 99% approval, that's good. I`m with Andre on this one and wait.

I sent him a message through eBay inquiring about the finish; if they were anodized or simply polished aluminum. His reply, "i did not make them with my own 2 hands i only supplied the perfect original bezel and test fitted it until it fit well in my opinion. i am not an engineer so have no idea what they are made of or how they are made the factory took care of that. i am a good guy please respect my listing and call before buying as the description urges. i will be able to tell in 30 seconds if your expectations are correct to too high"

With the scarcity and expense of good cores, I'm willing to jump through a few hoops for a quality reproduction. I almost respect the fact he wants to actually talk to his customers to ensure satisfaction. Many vendors now a days shy away from that.

I spoke with him; nice guy. He said that he’s sold 5 sets and all have been satisfied. The reason he likes to talk with people is to manage expectations to minimize his return shipping liability. I get it. He probably operates on tight margins. At any rate, I went ahead and bought a pair. I’ll let you guys know how it goes. I’m hoping it works out because good originals are tough to find and expensive.

I received my reproduction '64 Headlamp Bezels today from Columbia Parts Co., Inc. I gotta say, these are a pretty nice reproduction. I had to slightly tweak them to fit flush against the grill, but beyond that, they bolted right up. The finish is very nice and I'm pleased with the purchase. With the cost of getting a nice set of cores and getting them refinished, these are a stellar alternative. I'll keep these boxed up until I get the car painted in 2018. Now if only someone would reproduce the grills!

Some pics:

I did. He said if he still had his '64 Le Mans to test fit the pieces he would. Until he gets another, he will not proceed with that project. You should inquire as well. If he sees enough demand, he may go for it.

No problem. Chris was a pleasure to deal with and I'm hoping he takes on the grill project. He said he would start the project if I could find him a good deal on a '64 Le Mans...LOL!
