Posted this in heating and cooling tech with zero responses so thought I would try over here....'m stumped on this one. I read in the shop manual that to remove the condenser you drop it out through the bottom after removing the lower valance. I remove the valance, hood latch support, etc. to open up the area below the front of the car. I could not get the condenser out that way. Ended up removing the radiator and took it out through the engine compartment but was only able to do so after bending the crap out of the condenser bracket on the driver side. Once it was out, I discovered that the distance between the front frame horns was smaller than the measurement across the width of the condenser and brackets. Took the driver side bracket loose and adjusted it in by two holes (already there). Now the with over the brackets is about 1/8" smaller than the frame horn space. I'm thinking I've got it figured out, but obviously I was wrong otherwise I wouldn't be typing this long opening message. What's the secret to getting this sucker back into the car?

OK, so 26 views in H&C tech with no responses, and 28 views here with same result. Let me try this....can anyone confirm they removed it down through the lower valance area?

Been a long, long time since I removed mine ... but I'm pretty sure I pulled it out through the top. Just seemed easier that way. Probably took the radiator out first also. Not saying it won't come out the bottom ... but I've never done it that way.
You can't pull out the radiator and then just pull the condenser in through the radiator opening towards the engine, and then out? Will have to remove braces and stuff. Also a chance I might have loosened up the bumper, pulled a couple of bolts out and just tilted the bumper forwards at the top to make room ... back then I wasn't concerned with the fit between Endura and fenders. |

Does your car have hideaways? Shop manual says remove bumper in that case. I’ve only ever removed a condenser on a hideaway car and I did remove the bumper, the hideaway frame brackets are different than the LeMans-nonhidaway GTO brackets.
Sounds bad to remove bumper but you can remove it from the brackets so you don’t affect the tricky adjustment at the frame.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. It is a hideaway car so I'll take a fresh look at it from the perspective of having to remove the bumper. To pull through the radiator opening I will at minimum have to pull the driver side condenser bracket off, then try to re-mount it after the condenser body is in place.
Thanks again for giving me something new to consider - some magical solution that was easier was what I was. really hoping for
