Default What were you doing the year of your car...

I was 11 in 1971. Not thinking of cars yet. Playing hockey and enjoying 5th grade, Christmas, and all things winter.

I was 10 and was jumping the bike I bought myself with my paper route money - it was 1973.

You know that feeling you get when you go over a hump and your stomach drops - I've never stopped chasing that!

I was exactly 10 years and 2 months old the day my '64 GTO was built in April of 1964. My dad was selling cars for a Buick/Pontiac/GMC/AMC dealership in my home town. With those options, is it any wonder I gravitated towards Pontiac?

As to my wife's '72 Camaro - we started dating in February of 1972 when the car was built. Block was cast on Valentine's day.

Was a Senior in High School. Saved up $1000.00 for a down payment. Thought I wanted a Cutlass. The Olds, Pontiac, Buick, Cad, GMC dealer had two T/A's on the lot. I turned the key in my black T/A to be..... Had no more Cutlass thoughts. I was working "part time" after school and weekends 40 or so, hours a week. I graduated the same month I bought the car. I made ALL the payments...no handouts from my folks...

In Aug of 1969 I was a month away from being 11 years old. Playing baseball and building tree houses.

I was going to college & working as many hours as possible at the Pizza Inn, near the college, for $1.50 an hour, when I bought my first Pontiac--a '69 RA3 4-speed GTO, which turned out to be the only new car I ever bought.

It cost just over $3400, and the monthly notes were just under $125. Bought my first '68 'Bird in '74, for $350, off a dealer used car lot. Those were my first 2 Pontiacs, of many more to follow. Both cars did street duty, won races at the track, and hooked me on Pontiacs forever !

I was 21 years old and just about to be discharged from the Army when my first GT-37 was built on 4-25-71. I bought it off a Pontiac dealer lot in mid-June when I got home from overseas.

I met my future wife that Summer and we got married in late 1972. I always tell people that she married me because of the cool car I drove. It must have worked because we just celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary yesterday.

I was 4 when my 62 Catalina rolled off the line. Was already interested in all things mechanical. Loved to take anything apart I could get my hands on. Wasn't very good about putting them back together according to my parents.

Going to college, read the Hot Rod magazine a year earlier that described the new OHC six. In '69 bought a '67 OHC Lemans Sprint with 25K miles for $1600. It was originally bought new in Minot, ND., came with a block heater an rear defroster.

The lemans was totalled in '83 by a moron that crossed the center line, I kept all the removable parts, and in '85 bought a '67 GTO.

Good year, '67.

George

I was 16 when my 67 GTO was built. Just starting to get interested in cars but spent most of my time playing football, baseball, basketball and learning how to play the guitar.
