Default 1979 SE Trans Am 400 4 speed

I have a friend looking at a 79TA SE 400 4 speed and am wondering if there should be a code on the trim tag under the hood for the Pontiac 400 engine (W72 ) or (M21) for 4 speed?
All it has is CC1 for T roof and Y84 for SE.
So is the only way to identify the Pontiac 400 would be the Z in the VIN?
Thanks to all who respond.

The VIN would be the only way for sure to see if it was a Pontiac 400.
(PHS would confirm it also)

Z would confirm 400 4 speed in 79 as the letter was not used for any other drivetrain that year

Wouldn't you want to look for PWH stamping on the Block in case engine had been changed ???

Yep.
But he asked about the VIN.
Someone could put a 400 (PWH) in it and called it a 400 TA?

If it is a 'Z' code then he should check to see if everything else is numbers matching still.
