Rechroming Factory Bumpers
Anyone had their original front or rear Firebird bumpers re-plated?
General cost for minor straightening and show quality plating? I realize repro bumpers are the less costly option but I have a few originals that are worthy of re-plating and I'd prefer to stay with originals. So far, the recommendations I've heard are: - Advance Plating (TN) - Tri-City Plating (TN) - Fini-Finish (MI) - Paul's Plating (PA) I'm located in Mich. Appreciate the feedback! Thanks

Priced them locally, four different shops. Average for front was $750. Average for rear $250. I ended up buying replated originals off Epay in the range of $400 for the pair.

I searched out good originals to rechrome when I did my car. I used this company: http://www.metal-britepolishing.com/

I paid about 600 for both at http://www.tricityplating.com/. Excellent work life time warranty on plating. They also offer cores to purchase and re-chrome.

I noticed quite a difference in price between Advanced Plating and Tri-City...like twice as much or more. Curious what the difference would be?
Better chrome? More time spent prepping, polishing? I'm all for getting what you pay for and I'm looking for the best quality but... does it make sense to pay twice as much?

John,
I used Queen City Plating for all of my chrome. Ironically they were located about a mile from where I last lived in metro Seattle, but they do high end work for cars going to Pebble Beach, so it's not your slam it out shop.. They did my bumpers, header chrome (with the partial dull look) and hurst shifter lever. Yeah, it was expensive, but what the heck............. The link: http://www.queencityplating.com/index.html Is it worth the extra loot? Depends on how much you have to spend and what you are shooting for. For me, worth every penny. Plating
On my 69 the front was $500, rear was $850. North Texas Quality Chrome. I haven't seen the result yet, but I hope it was money well spent. The repro bumpers looked like crap to me, thin, not so shiney.
