Greetings and Merry Christmas. I am at the point where I need window sash channel for my '64 Tempest post car. Restoration Specialties looks like they have a good product for the door sash channel. However, I don't see window channel for the quarter windows that looks correct to me. My old stuff, which is worn out, has a metal re-enforcement spline that runs down the inside of the channel and little nubs that extrude thru to the backside of channel to snap into the body of the car. I have included a photo of a portion of my old channel, the dreaded flying hand is pointing at the nub that sticks thru the backside of the channel. If you look closely, you can see the rectangular piece of metal that slides over the nub to sandwich the channel and hold it. Any help on a good source for this is greatly appreciated.

When restoring my '64 Post GTO, I ran into the same problem with the quarter windows. I believe it was also Restoration Specialties that someone suggested I contact. I did, and they responded that they did have the correct material, but used it all and had no plans to replace it in their inventory, mainly due to lack of demand. I tried Chevelle sources and others, but found nothing.

I found some window channel material at a local car swap meet that was similar, installed it in the metal frame, but could not get the window to work properly, in spite of DAYS OF EFFORT. The material took up too much space between the bottom of the channel and the surface that the glass contacts. I finally put the old material back in and called it a day. Mine was not as bad as you describe, but would have liked to replace it.

The metal channel for the quarter windows is also UNOBATANIUM.

Dick, thanks for the response. I was actually thinking about salvaging the metal channel and melding it to the Restoration Specialties channel too. Looks like I'm in a conundrum. Dang.

I got some stuff from JC Whitney years ago to rebuild the channels for my 2-door wagon. It is probably what you need. However, the part number I had years ago is no longer recognized by JC Whitney's web site. You might want to spend some time on their site poking around. They used to have good descriptions and diagrams of what they sold.

I measured the sample piece with my dial calipers. The channel insert was splayed in its relaxed state. If I squeezed it together to make the piece square like it would be while in the car, it measured approximately .520” wide and approximately.640” tall. Restoration Specialties has some window channel that is listed as 1/2 wide X 5/8 tall. I think the part number was 1336. They are sending me a sample to check for figment. I will report the results as soon as the sample comes in and I can go to the body shop.
PS, Dick-my flying finger reference was my finger in the picture I posted earlier in this thread. Just a dumb joke on my part! Lol

Had this done buy Restoration Specialties in 2004, like you said I don't believe they have the materials to do it anymore.

In 2011, when I was doing the window channels on my '64, Restoration Specialists was the only lead I had for the fuzzies. On the phone, they apologized and said they had no more material like this, nor did they plan to get any.

64speed's comment is encouraging. Maybe Restoration Specialists changed their mind.

The funny thing is, I spoke to Matt at Restoration Specialties when I discussed samples and he never once mentioned re-lining as a service. Maybe if I didn't ask, he wasn't going to bring it up. Although that seems kind of contradictory to running a business. And when I said "funny thing" I meant strange, not ha-ha.

Does any one know if the material (weather strip) is the same for all three sides of the rear quarter window? I took mine out so long ago all I remember is the top and rear strip where one piece.

My glass guy was over the house today, taking a look at everything before he does his job. The quarter window I have had a stainless strip with a nylon type fitting on the top. He thinks the front of the window slides in the vertical 1/4 pillar on the nylon fitting. Is this correct? If so then does the nylon fitting 'lock' into the weather strip?

Also does anyone have a pictures of the original material that was used, and some photos of the rear quarter window opened to confirm?

Well, it's been a few days, and a couple of things have happened. After someone on this thread mentioned having theirs re-lined, I called Restoration Specialties. They Do offer this service. But, somewhere between the first body shop that I parted ways with and the current shop, damage occurred and the channels are not salvageable.Took the 2 samples that I received from Restoration Specialties to the body shop and checked fitment. The AS 1264 that they recommended looks like it will fit. So, it looks like I will have to make do. For those of you who have the pieces and they aren't damaged, call and ask for Jeff. I never did get a price since on the re-lining service since mine are damaged. Good luck.

All you need is the small metal piece that's riveted to the end all the rest is new. That and the vertical channel.
