Prewar service manuals?
I recently purchased a few Pontiac service manuals('38, '41, '42) on Ebay. When they arrived, I was confused as can be. I have manuals for lots of '60s and '70s GM cars as well as a '37 and a late '40s Pontiac service manual. They were all the same "normal" size. When I received these recently purchased manuals, they turned out to all be only about 2/3 the height/width of the others. I looked them over carefully and they appear to be original printings. What's the deal? Were the manuals smaller for a short period of time? Did Pontiac print 2 different sizes of service manual? I haven't seen anything like this before.

That's the first thought I had as well. I just wasn't sure if that was the case since the U.S. was not yet "officially" involved in the war until after these were printed..

I have a few for my 37, the first one is the small version. The second one I purchased was advertised as "full size" which it is. They may have had a glove box version and a service dept version.

btw '37 fastbacks are gorgeous cars. Mom has one that she would like to get restored before she is too old to enjoy it.

Is your Mom's 37 a six or an eight?

Very cool! If you have a chance it would be great to see some pics. I've seen a few on the internet but haven't seen another one at any of the events or shows I've been too.

It needs totally redone. It was in the midst of some amateur "fixing" when the folks got it. I'll bet the thing hasn't actually been on the road for close to 50 years. I'll have to look around. I'm pretty sure there is a picture somewhere from the one time it has been out of the shed since we've had it.
