Default Rear sway bar bushings

Was doing some research on PY and the net for rear sway bar parts and came across a reproduction bushing being made by our friends over at NastyZ28. These are a match for the 5/8 bar, lower bushing Part #3983071

What are they made from? Hopefully OEM type rubber?

I have a bunch of NOS bushings, and they all seem to have a flat area? Is that the correct shape?

The bushings that are on the ends of the bar would have flats. The bushings that go where the links are would be round.

Do the link bushings look like that?

Yes, the link has the Permanent bushing in the top and that bushing on the bottom. There is a different bushing for each size sway bar.

Good to know! Repops are a lot different then.

Unless I am missing something, I believe you may be mistaken;
It sounds like sway bar bushings you mentioned which do have a flat, are for the ends, not the links - these are for the links.

It sounds like you're talking about part #7, but this is the bushing for the link - which isn't actually shown in this diagram, but is sandwiched in between the link (#1), and the link cap (#9).

It is worth noting that the sway bar end links did change;
I am unsure if the revised links used a flat on the top.

As Norwood mentioned, there is a different bushing for each sway bar size.

I actually started following this thread yesterday, because up until now, I was unaware of a bushing made for this - I had understood that most people just made one out of rad hose...

Your Trans Am should have a 7/8" (0.875") rear bar;
This is for a Formula, which came with a 5/8" (0.625") rear bar.

@ RamAirPwr;

Again, do you know what is being asked for a set?

here is a link for a reproduction rear sway bar end link - which clearly shows the rounded shape on both ends:

Here are two different sizes that I found from the same vendor:

Here is a good pic I just stole from Bruce. It shows the round bushing and the one with the flat that is on the sway bar end under the spring plate

well bummer.
It looks like this thread might have been all for nothing.

I emailed Tom, and got this reply:
Quote:
Hi Jonathan,
I am sorry but I only have the 11/16 and 9/16 diameter at this time. What demand do you anticipate for the 5/8 inch bushing? It could be produced in the future if there is a big enough need.
Thanks for you interest.
Tom

I'm gonna take a leap of faith and say the 9/16 will be interchangeable with the 5/8 (formula) and the 11/16 with the 7/8 (T/A)
What do you guys think?

Thanks for the schematic. This is a breakout of part numbers I gathered from other threads and my own research

Formula 5/8 bar
Image #7 GM Part #480912 or Energy Suspension Part #9.5104G
Image #1 GM Part #3982298 (link w/bushing) For the bushing only, use Energy Suspension Part # 9.8140G (this is the bushing on the top of the link)
Image #9 GM Part #3983071 or repop from Tom

T/A 7/8 bar
Image #7 GM Part #482333
Image #1 GM Part #3982298 (link w/bushing) Don't have a cross reference for Energy Suspension
Image #9 GM Part # 3986486 or repop from Tom

Hope this helps!

I bought my lower drop link replacement bushings for my small diameter rear sway bar from PST (performance suspension technology).

They are not made from OEM rubber, and have a little larger diameter on the outer edges. You can see that in the pic I attached. I figured this was the best I could find so that is what was installed. These were much better than my originals:

I'd buy two sets of those in 5/8".

(Jonny, BTW many '70 T/As came from the factory with a 5/8" rear bar, even though the literature said they should be 7/8").

/\ yeah, I have read that.
It seems to me that often owners look to correct factory mistakes - which played into my reply.

I told him that if he did a run, I'd buy two sets as well.

I also encouraged him to check out this discussion.

If we are looking for potential buyers of the correct bushing for the 5/8 bar, I will buy a set.
