Instead of rebuilding my 1965 Tempests 326 I found a cheaper alternative. There is a rebuilt 350 (1969) HO motor for sale locally for a grand. However the water pump is the later design. (9 bolts)

I was planning to simply remove the 1965 326 engine pullys and brackets off the original 1965 326 and put them on the 1969 motor. Will this idea work, in other words do I replace the timing chain cover / water pump from the 1965 motor or substitute the 1969 timing cover ? Will the 1965 pulleys and brackets for alternator and A/C and fan all work the same with the 1969 timing chain cover? I was hoping to assemble and paint the 350 motor and get it ready for installation PRIOR to pulling out the original 326 motor.

I would first be concerned about if it was rebuilt and how it was rebuilt before considering anything. Too many times scammers clean up engines and paint them, then claim they are new or have very little miles. Then there are the shoddy or backyard rebuilders who claim they know how to rebuild an engine when in reality, they do not have a clue. I once bought a car where the engine was rebuilt by a GM mechanic. Judging by the internal parts used there was no doubt that it was done by a dealership or at least a GM mechanic. This "GM mechanic" never checked the crank end play. The crank end play was 3/32 of an inch! The crank was junk when installed and so was the fresh rebuild.

IMO - Unless you personally know the builder and his experience, your $1000.00 is better spent on what you have or leaving in your pocket.
