speedometer cable length

Need to order a new speedo cable & the parts book says 57" is correct length cable for 1968 4 speed cars. I have the original cable & fully stretched out it is only 53-1/2 (not including the barrels)

Are There other options out there, or is everyone installing the longer cables?
