I was just finding a pic to answer a friends question on park light mounting when I remembered this question and it has me stumped.
Where the nosecone slips in above and below the park lights there is a fastener hole in the top of the skin that holds it up and onto the inside of the steel bumper cutout lip. I think it's only at the top. Mine never had anything there so I added plastic trim fasteners and pushed them in 15 years ago. But what was there originally? Aus, I have read this over a couple of times now at TAC as well as here, I am not sure what the question is. I have lots of pics from my tear down and put together and am sure I could help.

It is amazing how many jobs that should be simple and last 5 minutes to do morph into an hour or so!

Looked yesterday-no fastners on mine. I did take the nose off when I repainted it in '88 and swiss cheesed the front bracing(a lot of work for 15 lbs) but that part is there and I kept most of the factory stuff. Urethane nose hole does not look like it ever had anything in it. I would think one of those push in "Xmas Tree" retainers maybe.
