Tire size
On a 79 TA 15 by 8 wheels . Whats a good tire combination for wider tires in the back and same ride height all around 265-50 in back and 235-60 in front ?

Those are 1/2 different diameter with the shorter ones being in the back.

Thanks Mike how did you come up with that # . I multiplied 235 times 60 and 265 times 50 trying to figure it out ?

closest to the stock 225/70 height is 255/60. great combo is 255/60 all around if you want same height tires &/or be able to rotate them. i run a 275/60 on the back of my 78 t/a & 255/60 on the front.

It's actually easier just to go to tirerack.com or another tire website and look at tires that your interested in. Say your interested in Goodrich Radial TA's - go to tirerack and check out that tire. If you click on "Specs" - it will list all the dimensions for each tire size. Once you do that - you will see that they don't make (and not many tire manufacturers do) a 265/50/15. If you want to run 235/60's on the front and wider tires on the rear that are close to the same diameter - the best you can do is a 245/60. The 245's are .5" taller - but remember that only half of that number is between the center of the rim and the ground - so it's only .25" difference in ride height. Personally, I've run 235's on the front and 255's on the back when I ran 15's. That's a 1" difference in diameter, but only .5" difference in ride height. I liked the way the 255's filled the rear wheel well. |

Thanks for the replies . It s for a friend . I run 235 60s all around .He wants bigger tires or wider in back . I like being able to rotate tires and an even good handling ride .It is hard to find 265 -50 s like you said champ.

Depends on ride height..My 76 I used to have with a stock ride height looked good with 245/60's all the way around, a 245/60/15 front and a 255/60 rear also looks good. If one has a car with fresh springs and sits up a little a 255/60 and a 275/60 works..if a car sags a bit the 275/60's may rub..
