Cool How many Pontiacs

I know we’ve pretty much all have, have had, or are wanting a Pontiac or Pontiacs. How many do you have or have had, and what are they or we’re they, and did your passion start as a child or later as an adult? From reading many post over many years here, seems more people have GTOs here. My list is as follows...

My Mom had a 69 Bonneville convertible that I learned to drive in.
My step Father had a 60 and a 62. Also had an 81 firebird.
I’ve had, a 78 Redbird esprit, a 67 firebird 400 coupe, a 75 TA, currently have a 69 firebird 400 convertible, had a 69 OHC firebird coupe, and had a 79 TA SE, and the newest addition have a 78 Bandit tribute TA.

Would like to have a 67 GTO vert, or a 50’s Pontiac wagon.

My dad sold cars for a living. Originally for an Olds/Caddy dealership until 1962. From 1963 until he retired it was Buick/Pontiac/GMC.

My first car was also my first Pontiac, a 1960 Bonneville in 1970:

Went several years without a Pontiac - partially because I spent 1974 - 1977 stationed over in Germany. When I got back I bought a new 1976 Ventura from my dad (leftover '76 purchased in April of '77):

Next Pontiac was a 1979 Grand LeMans - purchased new in in May of 1980. Drove that thing for 217,000 miles with only an alternator, exhaust, shocks, front end rebuild, tranny rebuild along with gas tires and oil.

Owned a pair of Pontiac 6000's - the first was an '86 - the second a '90.

Purchased my '64 GTO convertible in 1992:

Then a '92 Bonneville SSEI - great car!

Replaced the Bonneville with a '98 GP GT.

Replaced the GP with a 2006 Pontiac Torrent in the spring of '07

For about 12 months, I had a 1950 Pontiac that my dad took in on trade back in 1969 and sold to my older brother. My brother passed away in 1993 and the car had been in storage for 21 years at that time. In 2011, my sister in law called and told me that she'd lost her storage and neither of her 2 boys wanted it.

I brought it home and with 6 spark plugs, a battery and a fan belt got it running on 40+ year old gas (ran like crap, but it did run.

Ultimately got it running good and talked my nephew into taking it. Before shipping it to Arizona for him - I took my sister in law and her new husband for a cruise. It was the car that my brother and her took on their honeymoon back in 1969.

A photo from that day...

So now I just have one Pontiac:

I have owned:

1969 Firebird 400 convertible
2x 1971 Grand Ville convertibles
1972 Grand Ville hardtop
1972 Laurentian hardtop
1973 Bonneville hardtop
1974 Grand Ville convertible

Currently own:
1970 Bonneville hardtop
1971 Bonneville hardtop
1971 Catalina

The '71 Bonneville belonged to my pops, and that certainly got me started down the path of liking Pontiacs, big cars in particular. Always been a car guy though, always a gearhead. I've owned more than 50 cars total, driven many hundreds if not into the thousands more, and these early '70s Pontiacs are still among my absolute favorite cars to drive, out of all the cars I've driven. Love the styling, love the way Pontiac V8s run and sound, love the uniqueness of them. Even compared to the other '71-76 GM B-bodies, they're still my favorite.

I like GTOs and Firebirds as well, but I'm a driver rather than a shower, not interested in bragging to others about what I have, so I own and drive what I truly enjoy. Big cars are way more bang for the buck than expensive muscle cars that you have to constantly worry about.

My love for Pontiacs began when Pontiac began their advertising campaign for the new 1964 GTO. I gathered up all the different ads & posters I could find, and plastered 'em all over the walls in my room.

I wasn't old enuff to get my drivers license. But, from that time on, there was no doubt what would be the 1st car I bought. It would be a GTO !

I kept puttin up GTO ads & posters, thru the next several years. I especially liked those with tigers in 'em. I got to see a '64, '65, & '66 4-speed 3-duece Goat in action, in our little country town.

Also got a ride in a '65 4-speed, that belonged to a friend's older brother. My friend borrowed it one day & took 3 of us for a ride in it. It was my 1st ride in a Musclecar. He went thru the gears, barkin the tires with every shift. I'll never forget that feeling. I suppose it was the 1st car I ever rode in that was more than just transportation. It was a fun car. To me it was exciting--exhilarating !

To make a long story short, while going to college, I got a job working at a Pizza Inn. Since I now had a regular income, I decided it was time to buy a GTO of my own. My boss talked me out of buying a used '65. Said I should buy new. So, I went to the Pontiac place in Monroe, LA. They had a new Judge in the showroom. To me it was "ORANGE". I told the salesman that I was not about to drive around in a halloween orange car .

I asked if he could order me a Judge in some other color. His boss told him that was the only color available. But, I learned that I could order a plain GTO, with most of the same options. So, I ordered a silver RA3 4-speed, with a 3.90 posi, + an AM/FM radio. Ordered black interior with a bench seat.

It was everything I'd hoped for, & dreamed of, for all those years. It was my daily driver for over 60k miles. Then I put it on the track & won lots of races with it, all thru the '70's & some in the '80's.

GTO's were only the beginning of my love affair with Pontiacs. Had many other Pontiac street & drag cars, as well as lots of Pontiac parts cars. Had A-bodies of all sorts, 1st, 2nd & 3rd gen Birds, GP's, Cats, Bonnies, Grand Villes, and 1 X-body. Had a '69 vert, a '70 Judge, a '73 455 4-speed T/A, & a '77 4-speed black Bandit. Didn't keep count. Was probably well over 50 but less than 100, total.

Right now all I have is an '80 Bird & a Safari wagon.

I never owned a car until I got married in 1970. My wife had a Ford Maverick so we drove it until I got out of the Navy in 73. I traded it in on a used 1972 Luxury Lemans and drove that until the 77 models came out. Traded the 72 in on a new 77 Grand Lemans and my wife drove it away when she divorced me later that year. My second wife was driving a 1977 Olds Starfire when we got married in 82. I made a bad mistake and traded it in on a new Pontiac T100. That was the worst car I ever owned! It couldn't get out of its own way and the A/C leaked inside the car. When the Grand Ams came out in 85 I traded the T1000 in and drove it until it got totaled in a wreck. Next was a 1991 Grand Prix that we drove for about 5 years. I washed the car one day and the paint on the roof all came off down to the primer. Pontiac wouldn't do anything about it even though there were known issues with the paint. So I had it painted and traded it on a Toyota Avalon. Never went back to Pontiac as a daily driver.
My first classic was a 65 GTO clone followed by the 67 real GTO convertible I have now. Also in my stable are a 1950 Pontiac Silver Streak and a 39 Pontiac series 28 sedan. The 50 and 39 are still in the project stage but I am making headway on the 50.

My love for Pontiacs started with a 64 Lemans with complete 66 GTO running gear since then I have owned three 64’s and a 68 bonneville wagon. I am very partial to the 64 but would take a 66 in a pinch LOL

While my dad wasn't a car guy, he owned a 65 Chevelle SS and sold that to buy a 63 Corvette. So, I was a Chevy guy. First car was a 72 Nova, then a 66 Chevelle. When I joined the USAF, I wanted a go-fast car. My buddy had a 69 Firebird 400 (missing original motor/trans) with a 455 for sale for $500 (1987)...some assembly required. Thought it was basically a Camaro (sorry MaryAnn), so I bought it. Some of my other friends knew Pontiacs, so I too became a Pontiac guy. I like my 69 Firebird, but I really like the second gen Firebirds the best.

I got my '67 GTO hardtop in 1973. A family friend bought it used in '68, so I've known the car since it was 1 year old and I was 11. I bought it from him in November 1973, while living in Virginia. In April 1984 I moved to a different state, and towed the car along. In 2014 I ordered my PHS and discovered that I had moved to the same city my GTO was shipped to when new. That family owned dealership (Brown and Wood) still exists!
Other Pontiacs owned include a '65 GTO convertible, '65 GTO post coupe, '67 GTO post coupe, '72 Grand Prix.
I still have the '67 GTO hardtop (going on 45 years) and the '72 Grand Prix at 11 years.

Currently I only own 2, a black 67 GTO and a 62 GP. Over the years I've had several 62 Catalinas and GPs including a few 425a, 4 speed cars. in 1973 I purchased a low mileage 67 Ram Air GTO for my daily driver and sold it for almost nothing a few years later. I purchased a a plain jane 69 GTO in the late 70's and held onto it for a few years then a couple of 76 Firebirds in the 90's.

It's all my dad's, Uncle Bud's and Uncle Bill's fault. I grew up surrounded by Pontiacs. Dad's first was a '52 Chieftain. Uncle Bud and Dad both bought '55 Catalinas(Bud's was a two door). When Dad bought his '63 Catalina wagon, Bud still had his '55 but traded it in 1966 for a one of one '66 Tempest with a two barrel 389 and TH400. He had that one until the early 90s when the frame finally succumbed to rot. Uncle Bill has a couple of very interesting GTOs: a RAIV '69 with a his/hers shifter and one of the very few '71s with the three speed and the 455. My Pontiacs?

1972 Catalina four door hardtop Dad sold me for $1

1976 Grand Prix base model, Silver over black...great road car

1972 Grand Prix "J" model...The Beast. Many a 5.0 Mustang learned you didn't challenge that car!

1964 Catalina 2 door post sedan....sold to me by my BIL, Joe, for the price of building him a 350 SBC. The engine is STILL in my garage assembled and the Cat is still in storage at his body shop.

Mine started 4 years before I was born. My then newly wed parents bought a new 66 GTO convertible on April 6, 1966. They brought me home from the hospital in it when I was born. I knew I wanted that car when I was in kindergarten. I bought it from them for $1000 when I was 16. One of my kids will inherit it when I can no longer drive it. Since then, the Pontiacs I've had include a 73 Ventura, 2 74 GTOs (one I still own), 69 Judge, 62 Tempest, 67 Executive wagon, 73 Formula (currently owned), 77 S/E TA, 69 Firebird I'm building with my son, and a 78 TA,. Next one I want is a 67 Firebird.

Lol not being a Pontiac, I didn't think it was worthy of mention here. That's my wife's 66 Mustang. Original 6 cylinder/automatic, it now has an 89 5.0/ T5. I just fired it for the first time last weekend.
