Hey everyone! Just joined today as I have recently picked up my first GTO. This was a storage find that I purchased sight unseen. Matching numbers 4spd car with the original window sticker and build sheet. Special paint is Windward Blue which was a Spring Special Order Color. I have yet to see a 68 in Windward Blue. Although it is not that color now from a color change in the 70's, I'll be returning it to it's original color. She's very straight with some minor rust issues. Car sat for 12 years and has been recently fired up and runs great! Looking forward to this forum as a key tool in my path to full factory original restoration and to meet some fellow owners as well. The car has been PHS documented and is pretty rare as I am learning. I hope to keep you guys updated as I progress![IMG]

Nice find. I believe special paint cars came with a chrome bumper because endura bumpers were painted by the supplier.

Thanks! Yes, that is correct, special paint cars received chrome bumpers and you couldn’t get hideaway lights .

Very cool!!
Sheldon Hamilton has a registry of chrome nosed GTO's, not sure if your car is in there, but let me know if you'd like a contact e-mail. There are two types of these cars; special paint cars that required the chrome bumper, and buyers who chose an RPO color but requested the chrome bumper. Mike

![]() We had hoped this car would find its way here or pop up on eBay , so we could get more answers and info on it. An internet media source caught wind of it when it was listed on craigslist - and sort of made some exaggerated facts of their own. There were only a few pictures on craigslist and short information. Glad its panned out to be a Matching #s HO 4spd with Special Paint. That was basically what was stated on the listing - but we see a lot of initial claims that don't pan out all the way. Especially concerning original engines. That was a great deal and Windward is a nice color. The large majority of Chrome Nose cars were Special Paint - just from my own observations/findings. I have not seen the Registry that Mike mentioned. Only seen a couple/few that were NOT special paint. Seems like the total production of Chrome Nose is known. Thinking it was in the 600's ? This is//was a Windward Blue car i had forgotten about that a PY'er used to own . |

Would be Great to see the Trim Tag and Buildsheet for the car.
Some TT's list the paint formula number in 68 , some don't. [99539 is color on this example] I don't have a Buildsheet for a 68 Special Paint car yet. |

Here is the BHC for a 68 HO 4 speed Mayfair Maize with the 674 option. Agree not many standard paint cars were likely to have this option.
Would be curious if the 674 credit appeared on the BHC for the special paint cars.... ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

They are supposed to show , and credit , for 674 on special paint car.
BHC and Window Sticker However, The TT i posted for Carnival Red Car - it's BHC missed it [674] and has a later dated Credit Memo for 674. Another Carnival Red BHC specimen has the 674 properly included - as printed. 672 Lamp, Ign Switch + 674 Chrome Nose = 676 |

Wow...what a nice find!
For my tastes, that's about the most appealing chrome bumper car that I've seen.

Cool to see another credit memo car. Thanks for posting. Date of memo is quite a bit later than the invoice date on the BHC so that is consistent.
