Skip, the pictures you posted are the Turbo Honker MOPAR that won a BIG race against a lot of other racers with the car. 1964 time frame. The Turbo System was designed by Bob Keller (who later owned Turbonetics Turbochargers. I knew the car right away by the Intake system and the plumbing for the Inter-coolers mounted in the front fenders area.
Page 92 and page 93 https://books.google.com/books?id=Dv...0Years&f=false More pictures of the system in the link above. Tom V. Bob Keller is a very good friend of mine. He moved out of California to his retirement home in the mountains a few years ago. Bud Faubel was a Fighter Pilot who flew in the Korean War and in the Vietnam War as well as driving 160 mph race cars in 1964. Mr Faubel died a few years ago. Tom V.

Between Steve's Link and My Link, you now know a bunch more about Bud Faubel.
The Car, and Bob Keller. I never realized that Bob had moved from the New York area to California. Always assumed he was a lifetime California resident. The info I posted from the MOPAR book talked about his war service but did not mention that he was involved in a MOPAR dealership on Long Island. Great new info Steve. Thanks for the original post, Skip. Tom V.

Fun and interesting read! Seen lots of pictures of Faubel’s factory and altered wheelbase cars. But I had not seen the the turbo car. I was expecting to see that it was ran on methanol, not gasoline! 1300 to 1500hp in a stock 426hemi with the compression dropped for the turbos, then a blow through hilborn fuel injection with water to air intercoolers with the water in the trunk. Some cool mad scientist stuff going on there!
Cool, thanks for posting Guys! BTW Skip, we found a 65’ 348 too turn into a 427 for the red 62 impala. Just got the 454 crank back from the machine shop cut down to fit. The 348 has the 409 pan and arma steel main caps, nice motor, didn’t even have to bore it. Just honed it for some forged pistons. We are pretty excited about our first w engine build! Jay |

Let me know if you have any questions. Did you turn the snout down to SBC size to use a 348-409 timing cover? If not Lamar Walden has some that take a BBC snout. W motors just have that weird/cool look to them. heck some of the first angle plug motors! The Mopar was definitely a cool look to it. Kind of like two motor dragsters like the Freight Train!

Looked through my MacInnes turbo book, wasn’t in the book I have, possible the page fell out though...not sure which edition it is, had it since the early 90s, book is showing its age and use. I am pretty sure I have seen pictures of that car with and with out it’s fender exit exhuast. He updated the fronted to keep up with the body style changes if I remember correctly. I think the car was a 64 with a 66 front end when it was campaigned with the turbo setup.
Skip, thank for the info. Had not address the front cover yet. Jay |

Agree, The car body was upgraded several times apparently based on the info on the MOPAR site and in the book. Only talked to MacInnes in person one time, he was a very sharp Boost Guy and helped Banks develop his Turbo Knowledge over the years.
Banks and MacInnes put on a Turbo Presentation at a Ford Motor Company auditorium in conjunction with the local SAE Chapter many many years ago. 1978 time period. Tom V.
