Default 66 GTO Jack??

Here is the 72 Firebird jack I have right now. It does fit in my 1970 trunk mounting brackets. I will use this if I can n ot find a correct 70 jack.

I dug out the jack I have had for a long time in my 66 GTO. Here is it compared to my 72 Fbody jack:

Note the hook and pad angle difference between the two.

Also see the mast size difference. The trapezoid cross section of the body jack is smaller than the GTO jack. I will post in the correct forum, but does anyone think what I am calling my GTO jack is remotely correct for a 66 GTO?

The '66 jack used a square (or slightly rectangular) cross-section upright mast, not trapezoid.

Every 66 jack mast I've seen and documented is a trapezoid shape and the base is usually but not always more square than rectangular as shown.

SR71, can you send me some up close pics of that 66 jack and base, so I can begin my hunt? Thanks.

The most common 1966 base is the 6X6 shown below,
However it has been documented that there were different suppliers who used/supplied various jacks/bases.
Not all '66's had the square base. Not all were Dark (FURD) Blue, but again the ones shown are the most common.

Default Fremont bumper jack

Fremont plant builds typically used a Black rectangle base, square mast, dark blue mechanism and lug wrench.
I feel it was a West Coast suppler of these jacks that furnished the Fremont plant.

Below is the jack of my 66 Fremont built car.

Chris.

Steve, Thanks for posting the top pic. Will soon be hauling a good sized load of original jacks over & will be identifying all, hopefully a '70 is in the mix.

Oddball, assembled wrong, cutout clocked wrong and mechanism is oddball ..... Hilarious!

Guess you’ve never seen an OEM Fremont bumper jack.

Nice sunny California day to air up the spare and check out the jack.

That was actually fun setting up my “Original 66 bumper jack”.
Seems this “clock” of mine works perfectly.

Just as the MPC shows, square mast in a 6-1/2 x 7-1/2 base.

First pic is another 66 Survivor (not mine) built at Fremont. Same Same.
Next pics are my 66 Survivor built at Fremont. Same Same.

For the concours police, Jeff’s pic shows the two original blue variations. The one with the hole on base is typically found in Pontiac MI built cars and the darker blue/aqua tint one is from BOP plants. Of course Fremont being the exception.

Jeff-I dont recollect ever seeing a lug wrench like yours in a 1966. Aren't they usually much shorter after the elbow. No sleeve either right?

The rubber sleeve started in 1967. The lug wrench would slide into the rubber sleeve as shown below.

First pic is a Fremont built (67) having the Black base and the rubber sleeve.
The other three pics show a 67 built at PON plant jack assembly.

Note, there was a rectangle heavy jute pad glued the the trunk floor to cushion the jack assy. when secured.

Chris.

Wrench not 100% sure, but it's been with car since purchased am the 2nd owner??
It works(ed) well when I use to use it
Sleeve I salvaged from low mile '67, I just liked the idea of a cushion over the wrench.

I agree with Chris. My '66 and '67 Fremont cars both have the same jack assemblies as shown.
