Has any one installed halo headlights on a first gen? If so, where did you get them?

I saw a chevelle the other day with them but could not turn around and flag him down.

I've switched all lighting to LEDs. Heads, tails (Dakota) and markers. Win/win - brighter and less current draw. Also, wanted to preserve as much electrical energy for other parts even with a MegaAmp (tradename) alternator; ex. water pump, fans, fuels pumps, etc....

The higher quality stuff is typically from DapperLighting or JW Speaker. Here's the halo variants from Dapper in the 5.75" fitment we need.

I'm actually waiting for them to drop the OE glass 5.75" offering. It doesn't have the halo you're after, but it looks stock with a modern LED Projector. One of the things about my car I despise is driving it at night with the crappy sealed beam halogen lights after getting out of one of my modern vehicles.

I feel the same. Ive been considering one of the conversion housings that uses an H4 bulb. I know a lot of guys say they hate bright bulbs in a classic car, but man it just seems dim after driving my truck. Im not super familiar with all the terms but I think that type of conversion housing allows you to use a Zenon bulb, which should be brighter.

I do want lenses that look at least close to factory though. Im not interested in the halo.

They claim the 5.75" offering should drop some time this summer, but you know how that whole deal goes sometimes.

I was looking at these. You can find conversions cheaper, but those have good reviews, and Hella actually has their own website so you can probably get a hold of them with issues. Plus Summit usually has good support.

And the lenses look close enough, no crazy European cues.

Install was simple and when the Halo is not on you cannot tell they are anything but stock.

Totally ignorant question but how does the halo effect work? Is it a separate switch? Or is it haloed when you turn the lights on.

I have them tied into the running lights so they come on when I pull the headlight switch back halfway.
There is a separate wire in each bulb for the halo, you could tie it to a switch if you wanted. they are LEDs so very little volt/amp pull.
I'm not an electrical wizard, but I feel like there would be many options depending on what you wanted to do.

The regular bulbs work no different than the normal light harness, same connections as stock.

Oh okay, so they are only cosmetic, don't add any light to night drivability. If you don't want to hook them up just don't provide power to that separate wire.

I did an HID retrofit for low beam. Using H4 halogen for high beam

J W Speaker make halo 5.75" LED projector lamps with either a white or amber halo......great lights, I have the 7" versions on my Jeep Wrangler.
The downsdie is they require a special mount pad (available from JW Speaker) as they don't fit conventional light buckets.

Actually halos can work as DRLs like on most new cars. I plan on using switchback halos on my 67. These also act as amber turn signals. I'll use the high beam bulbs for this. If you see a new challenger or charger they use this type of setup. I'll wire the factory signals to be on when I turn on the headlights.

I am leaning towards the Dapper Lighting 575 kit with amber halo and LED with smoke protection covers.

If anyone has the Dapper lights installed, can you post some pics?
