MORROKIDE
Pontiacs Morrokide, which is actually Naugahyde.
We had a get-to-gether / barbecue this past weekend at our house and the GTOs were on display. One of the biggest comments was the smell when you opened the door and peered inside. Most everyone remarked about that cool old smell of the Factory interior on both cars. My girlfriend, then wife back in the late 70s would open the door on a 66 I had at the time and just take in the aroma of that Morrokide. She liked it! My daughter still does every time she visits. It still happens today when you open the door. Still smells awesome, like a Survivor should. On the inside of my 65 back seat lower cushion it says Naugahyde 64. Tough, durable and will last forever if you take care of it - Morrokide. Chris.

Thank you for a positive post ! You can spot a repro interior a mile away with their flat pleats. Nothing beats OEM.

That Smell
When I bought my Judge, all the smells came back to life for me (I was 8 years old in 69) Burning gas, burning oil, old interior etc. First time I gave my then 23 year old son a ride, "Dad, what's that smell?" My reply, :Victory"

I have a 1963 Ford Falcon that smelled inside for 40 or more years. Until I ditched the interior and the padded dash. Not a nice smell. It also condensed on the windows. I cannot remember the chemical, but my dad cleaned the windows with some solvent he had. He named the compound but the name escapes me now. Toluine? Boy after sitting in the sun all day it really reaked when you got in. It was my to the bus car and it sat in the street all day. I still have it today. One of the best cars I have owned. 1963 Futura 260 V8 that was 3 on the tree. Still in it's original paint Rangoon Red Enamel. |

The seats look amazing, I'm an pretty good detailer and certainly enjoy doing it but your stuff looks great. I'm afraid of damaging my seats, they are white, so I don't get to involved cleaning them. Any product that you recommend? For the body I have had good success white Chemical Guys Black Light and 3M Hand Glaze as well.

Here's a little trivia to add to the discussion - Naugahyde is an American brand of artificial leather. Naugahyde is a composite knit fabric backing and expanded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic coating. It was developed by Byron A. Hunter, senior chemist at the United States Rubber Company, and is now manufactured and sold by the corporate spin-off Uniroyal Engineered Products, LLC.
Its name, first used as a trademark in 1936,[1] comes from the name of Naugatuck, Connecticut, where it was first produced. It is now manufactured in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Naugatuck is the next town over from me.

Jarhead, youre Kill'n the Mystique.
On several occasions, I've noted to young newbie's, correcting their leather interior delusions of Pontiacs I'm restoring. "you wouldnt believe how many Nauga's were sacrificed to complete the interior"

Just trying to lend a little historical significance to the subject, we old codgers know they added the essence of old Chief Pontiac to each batch that was produced . lol
