Default Metallic paint on Purolater Oil Filters

So who is the wise guy who decided to use metallic paint?

While changing oil on our Mazda, I did a no look, reach under, spin the filter off and drop it in the drain pan with the used oil. After pulling the pan from under the car and pulling the filter out of the oil I nearly had a heart attack. For a moment I thought my oil was filled with metal! Until I looked at my new filter and saw the metallic paint! I didn't remember that from the last oil change.

We love our '16 Mazda6 Touring. The third pedal and stick in the middle are icing on the cake...

Whoa. I figured it couldn't be that bad. But after seeing that color, it's almost like they were trying to evoke the same reaction you had. It looks nice and all, but it totally looks like engine death.

I take it you were looking at the oil on the filter and not the oil in the pan?

That's right, I was looking at the oil on the outside of the filter after I pulled it out of the oil drain pan. That metallic sparkles right through the oil. The drained oil didn't have metal it in.
