Default Shingles.

I would encourage you guys to get your shots. I had first shot, after I got shingles. I've been putting off 2nd. After today ,I'm not!! Someone got shingles above their one eye and proceeded to blind them in that eye. Other physical issues can complicate life leading to death.

After a friend of mine got it, I saw my doctor to see about it. It’s only approved for use if you’re over 50 for some reason.

Not buying it. I know guy in his 70's whose doctor finally wore him down after constant badgering to receive the shingles shot and finally gave in.

He got one of the worst case of shingles I'd ever seen right after that shot.

I've had two, with no ill effects. A friend (Fifty-something) lost a month of work when he got hit.

My doctor has been suggesting the shots for a few years now. No pressure, just informing my wife and I. He also said insurance won't pay after age 65 I believe it was.

I had the one shot years ago, and now they recommend the new pair of shots. I had the first of the pair before the virus shutdown and finally called the VA and asked that I get the second shot before the 6 month time limit expired between shots and they got me in. So three shots and absolutely no side effects.

Odds of getting Shingles is about 1:3 ... I'm still up in the air about the vaccine. I'm no anti-vaccine guy, but ... a bit scary .. my natural inclination is to let that dog lie. Feel funny about reminding my immune system that I ever had chicken pox. But then it's too late to get it if I end up that one in three people.

I haven’t gotten a shot yet. But I did get Shingles a few years ago. I thought that it was at first a cluster of bad zits on my back. Then a bad rash. Went to the doctor and he identified it. Thank God it was on my back so no one could see it.

I got shingles in my late 30s (20 years ago), and caught it by accident, I was at the doc for something else - and told him to check my back. Thankfully we caught it early. I have nerve issues with the skin on my back as a result. Please dont pat me on the back, the pain is astronomical!

My dad got shingles at 82, on half his head and eye, after getting a "procedural shot" before an eye cataract surgery.

Think. i will go all natural

A friend of mine didn't get the vaccine due to shortages. She got a horrid case of it in her arm. It resulted in nerve damage and she can't fully grip anything with her left hand anymore and has had to have multiple surgeries to try and restore functionality (she can move it again after almost 6 months of therapy). This is a disease that if you roll the dice on the outcome can be pretty awful.

Thanks guys for reinforcing this shot for shingles. My elderly neighbor was telling me he got it in his mouth. It was terrible he said. My story I was tearing off shingle roof on our 2 car garage gambrel roof. I started to place new shingles one Saturday. Got itchy around my hip and waist. Thought it was poison ivy. Went to med Express, Female PA said ,you have shingles, yeah I said on garage roof! No you have shingles, huh? Luckily it wasnt more serious location. Like my eye!

Wife and I got our 2 shot about 6 months apart. Medicare does not pay for it. Got them at Walmart for around 150.00 each I think. My aunt got it and went blind in one eye. When I was younger a older guy got it on his face and it was ulgly. Best get the shots.

My doctor has been recommending it for the last couple of years, and I'm 63. At first there was a shortage, but now the shingles vaccine is more readily available, I will get the shots during my annual physical. My grandmother got it when she was in her early 60s, and I remember she was miserable. It started out on her arms but spread to most of her upper body.

I'm reading that the new vaccine that came out in 2017 reduces your risk by 90% compared to the old vaccine that was 51%.

Both my mother and father have gotten the shingles, my father had them twice and passed in 2007, not connected with shingles. My mother has gotten the vaccine and she still got a case of them, although not a severe case, she will be 99 next week.

She asked the doctor about getting a case, even after taking the vaccine. Seems the vaccine isn't 100% effective, but it is supposed to lessen the severity if you do get them. If I remember correctly she told me the vaccine is about 65% effective, that's second hand info, so I may be mistaken on the number. I'm not a doctor and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

I've been intending to get the vaccination, but as yet have not, I'll be 68 in January.
