Default Wheel Bearing Grease that Does Not Separate and Drip

Hey Gentlemen, I bought the red Mobile 1 grease for my motorcycle and in the summer, it would drip red on my garage floor.

I am doing the wheels bearings on my Pontiac now and don't want any dripping problem. :-)

Do you know of a grease that will not separate like this.

Thank you!

Default grease

I have always used mobil shc 220 grease in my wheel bearings in all my cars and trailers and never had and issue with dripping. If your seals are in good condition and the bearings are not over packed with grease you should be good.

I mean, the Red Mobile 1 synthetic grease is dripping out of my motorcycle.

220 is a synthetic, as with synthetic oils they are thinner. I've heard of a few guys have leaks when the switched to syn. oil/grease where they had not had leaks prior.

If you want the grease to stay put, use Sta-Lube black hi temp disc brake bearing grease. The red synthetic does separate and tend to run. But it stays 'grease' forever and does not harden.

I had a cartridge of the red synthetic grease sitting on a shelf for probably a year. Had to toss it out because the oil separated out from the carrier. Left a pasty wax residue when I poured the red oil out.

Over time I think all of those sticky/tacky "red" varieties separate out some. Every grease gun I've ever outfitted with that stuff that hangs out by the lift needed wiped off before I use them.

I've had the best luck for bearings using Moly grease from TSC. It's not overly expensive and takes the heat better than some of the "tacky" red varieties. I use it in all my trailer bearings and never had a single issue dating back at least 40 years now.

I'm sure someone makes it for them and it's sold under other labels as well.......

I've used the red Mobil 1 for 35 years an it ALWAYS separates out. The Wilwood kit on the Camaro with the original Wilwood leather seal let it weep/leak out. Luckily I had an ancient Wilwood rotor that had a rubber seal to get the part # off of that fixed that.

X2!! Have had the exact same experience with the separation of the "red" grease in cartridge and tubs. Every time I grabbed my grease gun it had a slippery redish slime on it. Switched to a Valvoline Molly, EP grease. Black tub and cartridge. May be the same stuff Cliff is using from TSC. Valvoline private labels more lubricants than they sell under their own name. The grease is a dark gray/black creme consistency and doesn't separate much. In tub form, I have had to mix it occasionally in the heat of the summer if it sits for months. About the same as Heinz Ketchup that gets that little separation at the top now and then.

The Oreily brand "Ford" moly has done the same in my grease gun too. And heck my tube of white lithium grease always squirts out yellow liquid before the grease comes out.

I've tried nearly all of them and now only use the Timken brand grease. It's red, but does not separate.

Quite likely the same grease under the TSC label. I also use it for camshaft/lifter and engine assembly lube. It NEVER leaves any slimy film on my grease gun either and an excellent product for packing wheel bearings and lubing distributor components during assembly.......

If you want to take the time, see if the TSC tub or Cartridge says Ashland, KY anywhere on it. Possibly it will say Ashland oil as well. Valvoline usually identifies their private label stuff that way.
