Default Continental Converter 10” P-2A P/S BAL

Anyone here know what this decodes to? I bought this one off someone here over 10 years ago and I can’t remember what the stall was supposed to be. Thanks

I'm rusty on Kris' codes but remember some.

BAL means it has a balloon plate.

The P2 is in reference to how tight it might be, can't remember if that refers to the stator used or not but he had 3 grades, P1, P2 and P3. P3 being the loosest.

I run a P2 that Kris did for me 20 years ago in my Chevelle that makes 600hp/tq and it's the best driving converter I've ever had in that car. Nice and snug, hardly tell it's there, but it will flash up to about 3400 rpm on a good sticky track.

Dad ran a P3 in his GTO with a 455 that made about the same power but it drove a bit loosey goosey on the street and would flash up close to 4000 rpm. I felt it was a bit too loose.

P2 sounds like just what I need! Thanks for the info!

Any idea of the coding on the “Jim Hand Special”? Thats what I have in my 66 GTO. It’s the best street strip converter I’ve ever had and I’ve owned a lot of hot rods.

Thanks but I don’t want you to go to any trouble. I’m sure I’ve got the paperwork somewhere where I ordered the Converter from Kris at Continental. If no one posts it here I’ll dig around this weekend and see if I can find it. I’ll post it here if I find it.

When I ordered my (10)continental i specified a 3200. It’s stamped P2 .
Unit works fantastic, flashes with drag radials 34 plus.. Not sure if this helps..

I don't recall, and I don't think mine is one of those either. It actually has a couple other codes on it that I don't remember.

I'm actually pulling it all out for a 4L80E swap so you have me curious now. I'll look at it closer when I pull it.

This was ordered after talking with Kris for an hour. EW is extra welding. Probably the closest to what Jim ran. It was set up for a 041 cam 9.25 to 1 compression 462 with 3.42 gears and 3900lbs. It is still in use and has a "few" passes on it.

I'm unsure what the codes mean as well but this is what mine looks like. It stalled around 4k but nice and tight around town. Really a great converter overall! I wouldnt hesitate for a second to reinstall it.

This winter I picked up a TSP 9.5" from Cliff. It stalls around 3,800 and like the continental unit it is very docile when the right foot isnt on the floor board. Im really liking it although it is very, very similar to the Continental at least ripping around town. My butt meter is liking the TSP better at this stage. I'm hoping for some better 60' times with the new converter.... Will see how that goes in a couple weeks when the dragstrip opens up. I might be selling this one depending on how things go, I dont need this thing sitting here if I'm not going to use it....

I know those codes have been posted on this forum. Do some digging with searches and I bet you will find answers.

My Continental 10" converter is for sale, but you have to buy the entire car to get it!

We've been getting excellent feed-back from the 9.5" units and have a LOT of them out there at this time in quite a few different applications.

As it relates to this topic we currently aren't offering the larger converters as the cores are getting difficult to obtain and expensive to ship. TSP had stepped up for a while and was making some really nice 12-13" units for us for "mild" applications but as Continental did back when they were doing them for us the larger converters are just too labor intensive and not a good direction to go from a business standpoint........
