Identify a 65 gto vert?
How do I tell if a 65 convertible has the gto option?
I’ve seen it before up close about 2 years ago. I’m supposed to look at it this week again to possibly work a deal on. . It’s in primer but factory was that pale yellow color. It’s an auto with console. The body is solid, rebuilt engine, suspension, and trans. He’s had it since 88 but has his mind on something else I guess. What are the things to look for to confirm gto ? option? |

Only 100% solution is PHS but there are things that can raise or lower the odds:
Correct coded GTO engine with dates that match the car Gto only dash trim treatment Gto only taillight bezels Having a six banger VIN would obviously mean it’s not a GTO

Thanks. That helps. I was hoping to not have to spend $90 to verify but I may now to feel comfortable.

If he has the POP (Protect-O-Plate) booklet with the car you don't need a PHS. The POP will tell you what it is. Mine came in my glove compartment 40 years ago when I bought my '65 so I didn't order the PHS docs until years and years later. When I did, I found out my car had added on seat belts, outside rear-view mirror, and power steering! But with no POP, you will need a PHS. Much more likelihood of a fake being an automatic car than a stick car, as well. The pale yellow color is Mayfair Maize, and looks killer with a black interior or parchment interior and factory Soft Ray glass. Good luck.....you need another Pontiac project!! LOL...

 not actually for me. My son has a 70 Mach 1 but might want to do something with that 65 situation.
