Vinyl cover between rear bucket seats?
Beginning some interior work on a 73 TA. Standard vinyl interior. Finding some conflicting information as to whether standard interior had this vinyl flap over the hump between the seat bottoms or not. I have found "barn find" pics both ways as well as various other pics. Anyone know for sure? Different plants?, Some other obscure option group make it come one way or another? I would like to do this right. Thanks. Black interior.

I will keep an eye on this thread and see what the consensus is. There is a clear pic in the Fabulous Firebird book by Michael Lamm of a 78-79 interior without the vinyl flap. Not many pics in any of my books of 70-73 interiors. Nothing in the 73 Assembly manual, no interior info at all. Nothing in the Firebird Source Book by Thomas Bonsall. So I have been looking around some. Thanks. Car I am working on already has poor quality replacement carpet, that's why I am asking. Thanks again.

Only one plant in '73 for the F-body. Here is a low mileage original.

Off topic, but they also did not come with a RTS emblem on dash or elsewhere.
(seems all the ones on ebay have them now)

Could be the later second gen cars had longer rear carpets, or a "Tail" made on the end. This would cost less than a finished edge vinyl piece used on earlier cars.
The original cars from 1970-73 that I have owned and seen had the vinyl piece and was on Base birds with std interior as well as Esprit's which were All Deluxe interiors.

Great pic of the 73 std. interior. I also thought possibly when they went to the thicker cut pile carpet in the later 70's, they may have eliminated the vinyl tail. I think I have enough to move forward. This car has JC Whitney carpet or something similar. I have the vinyl piece as well which I think is original and not attached to the carpet. Is it supposed to be attached or just firmly tucked and spray glued to the tunnel at the bottom? As you can tell, interior work is not my strong suit. Going to install new carpet from Ames in the car but I assume the vinyl piece doesn't come with it. Thanks for the help.

Just sits there tucked under seats. Mine have remnants of sound deadner on the back, which corresponds with the Assy manual locations of it.

Simply another vote for aLL models of '70-73 Firebirds having this vinyl trim piece. As mentioned, there was also a sound deadener glued to the tunnel under this trim piece.

My 70 standard interior car has the vinyl insert between the rear seat. It's an all original car.

Thanks for the help. Other than the carpet and the headliner the interior is really nice. Dash, door panels, seats original and just need to be cleaned. Good friend recently replaced the headliner in his 74 Trans AM. He is going to help me with this one. It has the cardboard backed, vinyl style.

Around 75-76 for the changeover to carpets that included the tail, possibly different suppliers, common colours would be used up sooner etc.

I don't know the answer and haven't checked, but when I sold the cover below it was for use by someone who needed a template. That was also many years ago.
