Guys. Does anyone know the cut in specs on a Delco 1973624.
I know it provides 20 degrees of advance, just want to know how much Vacuum to do so. Thanks. Gerry

Take this all with a grain of salt and for sure, verify what you have as you are planning to do with the Mityvac...
I found a GM-to-Delco cross-reference online here: Link to Delco Cross Reference It says your 1973624 is a Delco D1369A I then found a reference here (credibility?) that says the NAPA/Echlin equivalent to a Delco D1369A is VC1859. Finally, in the Lars Grimsrud "Distributor Vacuum Advance Control units Specs and facts for GM Distributors" doc that is widely quoted online, the VC 1859 specs are listed as: Starts 3-6" Hg Max of 10 degrees (20 crank as you state) @ 9-12" Hg If you have an original Delco part, it may well match. If aftermarket, I recently found a Std Motors advance unit was close on both the start and the max specs, but there was no mechanical limit at the max, so the advance continued beyond the max-rated vacuum level. cleaning out old stash of used parts, & I came across this piece. Curious to see if adding more vacuum advance would have any benefits. The Vac Can in my HEI currently adds 10 and works well. Did not want to modify it, just wanted to try another with lower start point. Always tinkering!! Gerry

However, if you need a lower starting point, and if this new can offers that, you can simply limit it's ability to add 20 degrees by welding the slot. You would want to limit it's travel to only give an additional 10-12 degrees of advance at the crank, like your current can, and then enjoy it's earlier starting point to see if that offers any benefits for you. That would be the proper way of doing it so you don't risk engine damage. |
