Finding car history from old license plate
I have this old '65 Bonneville now here in Finland. Imported 2009 from Sweden and it still has its old Illinois license plate so I was wondering if it would be possible to find out about its history while in the US of A using the license plate number? I know there are online services but I'm a bit sceptical about those sites, mostly just general VIN-information but nothing really specific.

Probably not from the licence plate. I did a search of a trucks history from the vin number through the state dmv but that was years ago and they are much more strict with this information now.
Good luck, Rg |

I attempted to back trace the history of my car with an old license plate a few years ago. The license plate was from Colorado and 1986. Colorado only kept license plate records for 10 years and they were not able to help me. Privacy laws would limit the amount of information the DMV will release.
Some state license plates code some information into the number - for example I was able to determine that the plate from my car came from Adams County, CO. Good luck. |
