Default 1966 Pontiac Emblem Font?

Hi all. Did a search but can't find an answer on this in here or anywhere else on the web. Does anyone know what the name of the Font is that was used on the 1966 Pontiac emblems, used on the grill and tail panels? See pics for the one I mean. I want to create a decal using that font if its possible.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Not quite, but close...some years ago I posted images of the Pontiac arrowhead along with the Pontiac typeface (called Pontiac Gothic) that was used for package labeling. You can see them here: https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=710806

Thanks, it is very close, but none of the letters have the little points on the ends as in the pics I posted. Thanks though, its a start. Any idea where you we can get that font from though for use? Happy to pay for it.

Anybody else got anything??

I just have a hard copy of that font, I don't know if it's available as software anywhere.

No ideas.

My bet, supported by Stuart's thread, is that it is a totally made up font and not standardized.

You might get close, but not exact.

OK, will go down the route of editing a font that is close if I can, might take me a while, but will share it once I have it done.

Thanks everyone for your help.

FWIW, I had the first gen Firebird front fender script copied for one of the Pontiac shirts my wife and I used to sell. Any graphic artist that knows what he's doing can easily make you a decal with a sample of the script.

See example below:

The shop I used made metal signs, decals, and T shirts. The guy that did the graphic designs never let me down when I asked him to execute the ideas I had. He was able to take my ideas, and rough sketches, and transform it into a T shirt design.

I also had the Stratostreak script taken from the 1955-1957 V8 valve covers:

And we also made it into a T Shirt, see below:

Since I wanted the area all the way across all the t's in a solid bar, he used a small s in streak so the arrowhead emblem looks as it came out to the cross bar like a small rocket, further going with the rocket inspired name Pontiac used for their original V8 engine. I also wanted it to look like a neon sign, and I think he got the effect I wanted. The neon sign look was much harder to accmplish than just getting the scrpt right. He had to use a matrix pattern of tiny dots to achieve the neon effect.

Here is the Pontiac Indianhead also made to look as it is a neon sign:

And the GTO script, also neon sign influenced:

A good graphic artist can make almost anything you want/need.

I hope this information is of some use to you.

Thanks Sirrotica, appreciate the info. I have a font editing app so I will try find one close if I can and then edit it to create what I need, but thats a good thing to know re a graphics artist too.
