Massachusetts .. Looking for windshield/ rear window replace at home ...
hi, friends,
car's not drivable yet but I'm at point where windshield and rear window can go in. can any Massachusetts members suggest someone or a shop that's qualified and will come to me? thanks for the help, Mike Framingham |

If you have your own glass, you may have a hard time finding a company that will install it. Call a few local glass companies and see what they say. If it’s all ready to go, I think you’d be better off finding a friend to help you get it done yourself.

I would start calling shops. I was in the same situation. I called a shop I use for architectural glass hoping he could do me a favor. He gave me a number for an auto guy, but he would not do mobile repairs so he gave me a number for a guy that did. It was a round about way but in the end the guy came to my house and dropped in the glass in about a half hour.

When I did my 1957 Chieftain all the shops that I called about installing the front and rear glass said if I didn't buy their glass they wouldn't install mine. I told them it was the original glass not new glass. They didn't care so I read up on it and watched a few videos and did it myself.

Does your car have the trim clips around the edge of the glass channel? IF so, make sure they are all good, then run the butyl tape around the channel and place the two spacer blocks in the bottom channel. Rest the windshield on the blocks then lean it in until it makes contact with the seal. Press it in good and you are ready to pop the trim back on. One other thing I did on my 67 was place a piece of tape at the bottom center of the windshield then marked the exact center on the tape. Did the same thing on the channel lip. Lined the marks up and the glass went in perfectly.
