In my 20 plus years of being a member here, I can't remember asking for help from our community. Tonight I ask, but not for myself. Three weeks have passed since Helene cut a deadly swath through the southern U.S.
Bodies are being discovered daily, and many survivors are needing shelter as the cold weather moves in. Power has still not been restored in much of the disaster zone, but power will not restore the homes or provide heat and food for those with no where to turn. Many surviving families are needing tents, sleeping bags, clothing, LP cook stoves and basics to survive. Even though my family is in eastern N.C., my daughter and 13 year old grand daughter are currently in the mountains of N.C. as volunteers and witnesses to this event. My wife's family roots are in those mountains and thankfully they made it through this. If you can offer just a dollar to help, please see the link below. These people are working to provide immediate needs for those affected, and are doing a tremendous job. But they need your help, and that's what I am requesting. Thank you. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/disa...cbe2e4a048a417 |

Thanks for posting this. My wife, family and I have enjoyed the NC mountains for many years and the tragedy and devastation caused by Helene and endured by our neighbors is heartbreaking. I have heard from many friends that Samaritan’s Purse and their volunteers have been doing an amazing job in the relief efforts in the affected areas and is the best charity organization to support if you want to help. I will continue to support them. Hope others can as well.

Thanks for being a voice for the victims here. The photos I’ve seen of Helene’s aftermath are astonishing. Donation made, hopefully it keeps the ball rolling.

Im donating to local charity that they use 100% for victim relief. Thank you for info. I cant imagine the totality of the destruction esp the water. I've personally seen tornados locally as a fireman and flooding but not to that extent

I can assure you 100% without a doubt that Samaritan’s Purse is the best of the best in charitable relief work. They are a faith-based organization and they provide relief and assistance to people in every corner of the world.

This is looking like it will be the worst natural disaster this country has EVER encountered!!!
A woman in my church (we sang happy birthday to her a couple of Sundsys ago, her 40th) had a friend she served in the army with (both served in Korea, on the front line). Her friend is a single mom, works in a casino, to make ends meet. Her town was completely cut EVERYTHING, power comes and goes, mostly goes off. She couldn't got to any food for her and her son! NOTHING.. The authorities were stacking dead bodies in the casino, nowhere else to go with them, This is just a snap shot of the horrid conditions, in a huge area!!!

We donated through Operation Airdrop to help with fuel costs for the private helicopters and helped with the Carolina Relief Project out of the Greenville SC downtown airport. It is amazing how the community has come together to help NC

Here is another worthwhile donation idea. My son in law went to help out with the cleanup at the Black Mountain Home for Children
