Have a replacement shifter linkage for my 64 Lemans and 1-2 shift rod hit trans case, rattles. Has adjusters on shifter end not like stock ones. Had threaded ends. But does the adjuster clip end face the transmission on 1-2 as well as 3-4?
Try to search but all pictures don't show 1-2 adjuster. Thanks

On my Hurst Comp Plus, both 1-2 & 3-4 face the trans but rev faces away. Go to 5speeds.com and click on his YouTube tutorials. Paul explains how to set a shifter up. Don't hesitate to call him, he is very generous with his knowledge.

Back onto the hoist and try to put it right. Has stock 64 shifter without the stops so hopefully there should be enough room .

Here is an image of a typical 64-66 linkage setup. |

The original linkage is set up differently. See pics. Where did you get the new linkage? Contact Peter Serio (1st pic) on this forum or Paul at 5speeds.com for help.
Also, FWIW, the 1-2 linkage lever at trans is longer than the 3-4. It may change the geometry. |

The linkage kit shown in Pauls video is same kit. Was able to move the linkage to correct location by removing reverse linkage at shifter as well as 1-2 obviously and shift trans into 4th to give me enough room to move it. Using the hoist made things pretty easy. Of course we had to go for a road test to make sure it worked ok. Had to blast thru the gears a couple of times. LOL. Kids, we never grow up.

The OEM linkage is crap. Those slip fit fittings on the 1-2 and 3-4 rods WILL slip at some point. The Hurst replacement rods (like standard Comp/+ rods) are the way to go.

GM tried to save a buck and bought the Hurst shifters, but not the Hurst Linkage they figured they could built this themselves, they did a design change in 67 and that setup is much nicer and fits better than the aftermarket universal stuff that is available, the problem is that 4 speed sales really slowed in 67 so it can be hard to find.
