Hi,

Looking to upgrade my headlights to use removable LED bulbs. Already picked out the housings and trying to figure out what model bulbs I need (not really concerned with brand at the moment).

Since the original system has 3 pin low beams and 2 pin high beams so trying to nail down what model #'s to use for each.

I see H4/9003 a lot in the forums which is 2 prong which makes sense for the high beam, but don't know what to use for the dual low/high beam. Some people mentioned it doesn't matter and to just use the 2 prong but it doesn't make sense to me.

Can anyone share what they have used for removable led headlight bulbs?

Or can I use other model bulbs if I use a converter patch harness from the original headlight connectors to the newer model bulbs.

Most of the time the led bulbs come with the conversion wire harness. Use the same bulb in the high and low beam housings. The low beams will use 3 wires and the high beams will only use 2 wires. The third spade connector just hangs out in the air.

My LED headlite saga....I currently have the same issues. I bought the Lightening Dark 14000 LM H4 bulbs a while back, they have 3 pins but the description says Fog Lite. I am using them for the Low Beam, but the light pattern is not anything like a H4 Halogen. Looks weird like it could be for a fog lite.

I am getting some other brand H4 which the description states is for low/hi Beam. Let's see what this does.

I also converted my Allante to LED... that was annoying. Supposed to fit my car.....not so much...the back side is a finned aluminum heat sink and my car has a metal lock ring that locks the bulb in place, but the ears on the ring used with fingers to rotate it in place rubs on the larger aluminum housing. Had to grind way some of the housing for clearance. Also, they initially didn't work, triggers the computer headlite fault... called the supplier and then they say you need the resistor harness....surprise! The resistor harness is 2 high power 6 ohm resistors, one for each hi and lo beam (which draws an additional 2 amps per beam) to fool the computer that the old standard bulbs are in place. A waste of power here .. so the LED system draws more total power, saving you very little, and you have to mount this stuff somewhere.

As a test, I changed the resistors to 12 ohms (12 watts wasted instead of 24) and still fools the computer. Some day I may try 24 ohm but it's messy to do.
If I would have known it was this messy, I would not have bothered. That's what happens with oddball cars, I guess.
