Exclamation 9/11, 24 YEARS LATER: MEMORY, SERVICE, AND WHY A NATION STILL REMEMBERS

September 11, 2001, began like any other Tuesday. Clear skies stretched over New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. By 8:46 a.m., everything changed. American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175 tore into the South Tower. Thirty-four minutes later, Flight 77 hit the Pentagon. Then, at 10:03 a.m., the bravery of passengers on United Flight 93 forced their hijacked plane down in a Pennsylvania field—preventing it from reaching its intended target.

I am afraid too many don't care any more. I see and hear them every day.

That’s my feeling as well. It seems that every year it wanes a little. And it didn’t help this year, that the news was dominated by another event. Eventually there won’t be anyone around with a firsthand memory of what the world was like on September 10th.

I still get together with my group that I worked with while I was in New York at the time. We started off way back with a conference call, then we went with FaceTime, then on to Microsoft Teams. My how times have changed.

My routine alarm went off at 9am , I had fallen asleep and left the TV on overnight.
It's showing a smoking skyscraper and I'm thinking it's a clip from a new movie, didn't pay it much attention.
Then a jumbo jet crashes into the adjacent sky scraper , what the hell is this movie going to be about.
Turned up the volume
It was an unreal day.

I exactly remember. Latrobe Construction Quarry at Darlington, Pa. Heard over truckers cb about jet flying low over Chestnut Ridge a few miles from me/us. We were looking, that's the jet that crashed into the field. Talked with my parents exactly what was going on. Called main office they sent us home. I went to St John's Catholic Church and prayed there for about an hour. My father and mother made vacation trips to New York. He was a fireman. He had pictures of many many of New York's fire apparatus. Also he took pictures of the men at different fire houses. He would talk to those fireman,he knew some of them that were at the Twin Towers. He wouldn't say much. The pictures are stored away. Before the attack he had the pictures mounted in his small den. He would talk about them.Afterwards not much.

A terrible day for America.

The heroism of the Port Authority police, FDNY, NYPD and others showed us true courage.

But sadly what did not measure up to their sacrifice and played right into the hands of Usama bin Laden was our overreaction to this: not one but 2 unnecessary wars and curtailment of many of our freedoms.

And we almost got these murderous pricks before it happened. Ali Soufan, former counter-intel FBI agent documents it well in his book.

There is nothing in my post that would warrant moving this thread to the clubhouse.

Sad but true. Wonder how many people know the significance of Dec 7, 1941.
