Default CTF 200-4R question

Good Evening Everyone,
New to the forum and hopefully this post/thread is the right place. Apologies in advance if not.
Ive come across a good looking core of a 200-4R with the tag CTF. its an 87 model and if im not mistaken, from a Chevy Caprice. While not the highly sought after CZ, BR, OZ, ect at only $50 would it be a decent candidate for a rebuild and sell? A shift kit and gov upgrade would be done just to step it up a tad. If I understood a comment I found correctly, it would have the 10 vane pump and a hardend sun gear already from the factory, yes? My neighbor across the street is a retired gm transmission specialist and be my Obi Wan so to say. Ive read too that any 200-4R can be made up to be a h/p unit, but thats not my intention with this one. Do the shift and gov upgrades and then sell it. Ive come across many that just want o/d in their weekend cruiser. I have read that the ones behind v6's, diesels, and even some v8 (example OGF tags) just don't make since $ wise.
My son has left for college, so just trying to keep the "lonely nest" syndrome to a minimum , ha ha. I do have an 86 Brf grand natty i do plan on beefing up for a ratt rod project, so if i pull the trigger on the ctf, it'll be an introduction so to say. Im not trying to open a transmission shop and build 500+hp racers. Just to learn something new and build up $ for the new interior/re-paint/wing replacement my Fraulein is needing.
Appreciate any/all tips, thoughts and feedback.
Ha e a great weekend all,
Thanks-
Jh.

Any 200-4r that's going to be used behind a Pontiac 389,400, etc is going to need some hardened and or billet parts. Even at near factory torque levels, its just not going to live for long. I am running a 200-4r behind my 389 that made 400hp and 460tq on the engine dyno, and if mine hadn't been built to the level it is I would absolutely broken it by now. Mine is an Extreme Automatics level 2. All of this to say it's not worth just going through it like you're talking about without beefing it up a bit more. The guy who buys it from you probably won't be happy with you unless it's going with a stock v6 or 305. I think which one it is (ctf) etc doesn't really matter due to the improvements needed to make it live.
