Default 66 Lemans - Carpet Cutting Under Console - Automatic Trans

I'll be installing an ACC carpet in my 66 Lemans soon - it has a factory automatic transmission. Did the factory mount the shifter assembly on top of the carpet? Any other tips for navigating that area?

If memory serves it’s mounted on the metal brackets directly, I think it gets its ground for the light that way maybe?? In order to make the carpet fit well I had to cut it out for the shifter and then overlap it to fit better but it’s been awhile

Thumbs up

Not as much for grounding as much as it is for stability.
Also, remember there are plastic spacers between the shifter bracket and the floor.
