As some of you may be following, we roadtripped my son's Ventura from the Bay Area to Tucson for the Duct Tape Drags. We caravanned down with his friends from Rod Knock Ranch who have been rebuilding the BBQuda from Roadkill Garage and parked with them during the event. Super fun group of guys who will always lend support, a hand or a part to anyone in need.

Friday was mostly all test and tune with some activities like the burnout pit. My son's nerves were at an all time high before his first pass, but once he got that one out of the way, he was right back in the staging lanes. He ended up getting 8 or 9 passes throughout the event and ultimately knocked a second off his time.

After the test and tune, it was time for the Battle of the Beaters. Freiburger and Derek from VGG judge each car in the staging lanes against the theoretical $5k budget. They put cars in the naturally aspirated class, power adder or bogus for cars that are clearly not $5k. They said the Ventura looked too nice for the beater class, but let it slide.

The battle is heads up racing so a 16 second car could run against a 12 second car. It pays to be fast. Cole ran his best time (17.01@81mph) during this pass, but unfortunately lost. The Ventura isn't a rocket by any means, but it's been reliable and consistent! The Rod Knock Guys got the BBQuda down to high 12s and made it to the 3rd round of eliminations.

This was a super fun event. Very communal with a wide variety of cars running anywhere from a 20 second to 9 second quarter. No smack talk, just a bunch of guys supporting and helping each other out.

We're heading home today and making a stop in where else - Ventura! Cole's been wanting to take the Ventura to it's namesake town and drive it on the Ventura Highway since he got it. Might as well since we're in the area.

I'm super pleased with how the car has been holding up. This is the little Ventura that could!
