Default Patching Wheel Wells with Good Quarters

I am going to be cutting out rusted sections and welding in patches from the wheel wells of my 69 Lemans race car. The previous owner put new quarters on top of the rusted-out wheel wells. I am just looking for any advice you guys might have. It's my first time doing any body work and I figured this would be a good place to practice as no one will see it. I do have a mig welder with 75/25 gas. The quarters are in good shape and I do not want to go through removing them. Thanks.
