I combed over 2 housings yesterday and was unable to find the codes. I thought, it shoudl be passenger side tube approx 8'' from backing plate, which should put it very close to the end of the crush on the 69 axle tubes. no luck, the housing i removed from my carousel red car is very very clean, yet no stamps that i could find. i looked on front side of tube and then i found some info saying it may be obscured by the brake line sometimes. no luck yet.
anyone point me in a likely direction it would be appreciated.

They can be very lightly stamped and invisible under layers of paint. I found mine, as mentioned above, on the rear of the tube, driver's side, 3 inches from carrier.

This is where mine was located. Very light stamping easily covered by a heavy coat of paint. If there is corrosion pitting even harder to find. Don’t use sand paper to try to expose it as it may be light enough to make it worse. Wire wheel works well…
