62 Tempest LeMans Rope Drive Noises

I just picked up this new project and have got it running, but when I shift into drive the engine gets abnormally loud like Uncle Buck, and the Rope Drive makes concerning noises but drives. What could cause these issues, since it sounds great in neutral?
