Working on a 1972 Formula. When I got the car, the rear sway bar had been removed. The front sway bar was present and is 1.125" in diameter. What should the matching diameter rear sway bar be? Thanks.

If you have Y99, I think 7/8" is correct. But standard would be 5/8". I could be wrong.

Check PHS to see if you have Y99 (trans am) suspension option....

Performance and handling PKG or "T/A suspension" in 72 would have a 1.250 front sway bar and the larger 7/8 rear bar with 15" tires. Sounds like your car does not have that suspension because of the 1.125 front bar.

Going from my '73 Dealer album I'd say it stongly points to a 5/8th rear bar as being correct. As mentioned, if you had the bigger bar up front then you'd have gotten the larger bar in the back. You should get the PHS, but if I were a betting man I'd put money on the 5/8ths being correct for your car.

With the 1.125" front bar, I also believe it would have been spec'd with a 5/8" bar in the rear.
