Maybe Im too sensitive,I understand the work that goes into some of our cars is mostly for our enjoyment of driving and showing off what ya got. When I see something for sale and arrive at person house that is selling item and notice they have a classic car ,race car or anything that catches my eye ,i.always strike up a nice conversation with them like what size engine ?how long ya had it?What size cam? Those kinda questions. Now anytime somone comes to my house for car related stuff I sell like just yesterday I sold some drag radial ,figured he was into racing. The response was total ignoring my car with his back mostly away from it.Ive even sold pontiac motors to people and still get negative feedback. So am I taking this **** to seriously?

When I pick up or drop off a vehicle
there is always an opportunity to visit and perhaps share what I see with a video (if I am allowed). Occasionally folks are abrupt, such is Life, I don’t take it personally. Jim

I don't mention things i see at customers' homes or when buying selling stuff at other people's homes. It makes me feel like they think I'm casing the place out.
Now if THEY show it to me yea i'll talk your ear off LOL

I'm not super talkative if I dont know you personally, and I certainly don't go out of my way to talk about things I see at someone's house.
I guess I cover across as a jackass to some guys? Oh well.

Buy sweet corn from old country farm from time to time. Old Malibu station wagon sitting in yard filled with corn and usually a lady or kid there. One time just a couple years ago was older guy like me. I noticed front end of 70s chevelle in nearby garage. Asked him about it and he gladly walked me over to see it. Was his brothers car. Nothing special but a nice car. Also in there was an old Chev of his. I saw a calendar hanging on wall with a yellow 70 442. I said something about it and he said wanna see it? I was like, you mean you have one here? He walked me back to another small garage and inside was a yellow black stripe W-30 4 speed. Like 20K miles as I recall and all original, even hoses and such. It looked beautiful. His best friend bought it new to race but kept it all stock. He said it has never been apart. Friend was drafted into service and wanted this guy to buy it from him, which he did and also raced it some. Back then there was a local track. He appreciated my interest and was very willing to talk- even pulled out a stack of time slips he had saved. Never takes it out to shows and such, just runs it from time to time. It's destined to be his kids. I had driven by that place for 30+ years never knowing what was in that garage. Was way cool and fortunate encounter. I expect it's still there, hiding safely in that garage. Hopefully I will see him again selling corn :-)

If you got someone in your garage, it’s gotta be someone you like, craig listers pick up ***** at a Starbucks or out in my driveway.
I went to get some camel seat belts from a guy on CL. I asked the guy what was it the big flat box, it was a GM camel package tray. I’ll take I said. Last edited by burd; 02-06-2026 at 05:51 PM. |

YeahI see the different line of thoughts from above post. When I see a car with drag radials I won't hesitate to ask "what's it run". That question shouldn't be in no way taken as negatively by any car guy.But some people take it like my daddy can beat your daddy up.

Some people are just flippers and only care about the value of an item. They know you are probably selling for a low price and know someone who will buy it for double or triple. When I sell some part(s) I usually keep garage closed because I have had people ask me if other things on the wall are for sale. I just say not at this time and finish up with transaction.

I NEVER show off my stuff to people, as I take it as bragging. If someone asks a question about something they notice,I’d be happy to show them. If it’s a Craigslist or Marketplace type deal I usually have the parts in the driveway, and the garage closed. I don’t want Joe Blow casing my stuff.

There are so many shady people out there now I can see both sides of the situation. But if you don't speak up you might miss a nice person. Years ago I was in a person's old barn and saw a collection of very old license plates fastened to the wall. I mentioned how they were in great shape. The owner asked me if I would like to have them (for free). They were porcelain coated from the very early 1900's. What if I had kept my mouth shut?

That's not entirely true. I'm still the nice guy I have always been and so are my friends.

I can attest to that. I met you years ago at NED racing and you are correct.
