I have a factory electro-cruise system in my 1966 Pontiac Bonneville. The ¼ inch spring-reinforced vacuum line that connects the electro cruise power unit on the engine with the cruise release brake switch has deteriorated and needs replacing. I assume the vacuum line was reinforced so that it would not collapse under use – seems odd as I don’t think that much vacuum was generated by the electro-cruise system but there must have been a good reason for Pontiac to do this.

I have not been able to find a part number for this specific vacuum line in the 1966 Pontiac Chassis Parts Catalog and will probably replace it with a braided gas line. I would reuse the existing long reinforcing spring in a new vacuum line but the existing spring does not want to leave the old vacuum line and – and while I could cut it out of the old vacuum line - it seems it would be near impossible to insert the spring into a new vacuum line. Hence the reason to use a braided gas line.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I think that braided line would work just fine. If you don't want the look of braided SS, there is similar braided black line you could use. Check Summit or similar catalogs. Not sure if it is a fabric like Kevlar or similar but it would work fine as well and blend in better than SS I think. Please let us know if you get that electro cruise working. I have owned and worked a little on about 6 cars with the system. Never experienced one that actually worked and functioned correctly.

Summit has a black -4 nylon braided hose in black that might do the trick It is rated for vacuum use. Part number: VPE-11984. $29.95 for 5 ft.

The fuel line seems to be the way to go but suspect that will not be the only problem I will have to solve to get the system working!!
