Default 7040273 Carb question

Did Carter produce this carb or was it only Rochester that made these?

That is what I thought as I was looking at a Carter unit being advertised on Ebay with the 7040273 number on it. The guy is asking $1,295.00 for and list it as a Quadrajet but the pics show Carter markings on it.

Rochester did this across all of the GM divisions. The top performance engines of Chevy Buick Olds and Pontiac all had Rochester Quadrajets…none were built by Carter.

As a point of interest, I also have NEVER seen ANY SR QJets built by Carter…. i’m about 100% certain they were only supplied by Rochester.

Cadillac, Buick and Oldsmobile NEVER got a Quadrajet mfd by Carter on ANY engine from factory.

BTW, Carter made lots of aftermarket replacement Quadrajets for Cadillac, Chevrolet and Pontiac.
Quite a few of these have turned up as restamped "Frankenstein" carburetors.

FWIW

Yes. The one on Ebay is definitely a restamp and a poorly done restamp at that. The first 4 digits are very lightly stamped and hard to see but the last three digits are very clear. It amazes me what some people will try to get away with. Thanks for the info!
