Just a quick question.... The main body of the tach was obviously body color.
My questions is, the piece nearest to the driver that supports the glass, is this also body color and does it matter if the car was black? I'm just wondering if that piece should be semi flat or gloss black on a black car Thanks. |

That inset where the lens sits I think should be painted flat black or a very dull semi-black. (not glossy) I think that one piece was the same (black) for any car body color.

I tend to agree Peter. It was hard to tell for certain, trying to determine if it was old faded black body color or not so faded flat/semi black on a black car. I appreciate your response.

It makes sense to me if you look back, say at a 64 or 65 or 66 GTO. The 4 "tunnels" of the round gauge openings in the dash bezel were all painted flat black.
I am pretty sure those openings were painted flat black on purpose so you don't get a weird light reflection right into the clear lens. The hood tach; they may have been thinking something very similar.

I had an NOS hood tach many years ago, that bezel was somewhere between flat black and low gloss (definitely not semi gloss), not the same as the housing which had a primer on it I imagine at the factory the external housing was painted body color before it was bolted on to the rest of the tach assembly.
