I am trying to determine whether my '72 T/A originally came with a space saver spare. The trunk pan is original. I do not have a build sheet although the car has nearly every option. It came with 4 honeycomb wheels but my understanding is the honeycombs were a no cost option. The trunk sticker is for a regular spare not the space saver spare. I bought it with a space saver but don't know if it is correct. There are 3 jack brackets in the trunk, a pair placed diagonally which would be correct for a full size spare and one bracket on the passenger side which would be correct for a space saver. I would think there would be a second jack bracket for a space saver. The loop type bracket for the spare hold down does not help as they were replaced. Any insight would be most appreciated, thanks

Space saver spare Would have the space saver sticker, and it would have two brackets on the top very close to the backseat from left to right not diagonal

That’s what I thought regarding the jack brackets, my car has 3 in total. I read on an old thread that if a car came with honeycombs it also came with a space saver because a spare honeycomb and tire was too heavy. Any way to know if a car was built with honeycombs if I don’t have a build sheet? Thanks!

My '72 Formula 400 came with 15" Honeycombs and that was also the spare. In our family since new and I've owned it since 1977. Code 478 Honeycomb wheels are called out on the what would be the PHS sheet. The build sheet, of which I have found 2 so far, has code KP for box 59 Wheels. Then below it lists the options and has "PO5 HONEYCOMB WH" Nowhere does it call out either type of spare so assume since a Space Saver wasn't ordered/optioned you got the matching wheel.

If you have the build sheet, look at the tire code box. It should show a code (EX UDDL) and a number next to it, (EX, 5). That would mean 5 full size tires.

No build sheet so I’m guessing, trunk sticker is a full size spare. I have a space saver that came with the car but no idea if it’s correct, or even the right year. Can anyone post a picture of a correct space saver for a 1972 firebird. I have a black rim that says NT on the outside by the lug holes, and 4118 on the outer rim. The BF Goodrich space saver tire has BYMAKOCU on the inside.

Hey Frank,

I knew your car didn't have a build sheet. I was trying to answer The other guys question.

How's your car coming along? Did you get the ignition switch straightened out?
