the edelbrock head gaskets shows 4.2 bore by .038 compressed thickness. i ordered a couple sets just to find a set of felpro 8518 in the package. @ $50.00 a set i guess i coulda made do with them but i have a new set of 8518s and some old victod head gaskets so i sent them back.
was they always just repackaged? |

A guy bought a set of Edelbrock for an engine I was building for him. They were the FP 8518. Compressed is around .042. I did not use them and ordered the FP 1016 which I feel is a better gasket.

I would not chance using the 8518 on anything over 450 hp.
I had already had them on a 455 when I dropped a 671 blower on it that was under drivin 10% for just a few weeks while I finished another set of heads.

I think the 4.2 bore size is a good thing for a lot of guys so I was looking at them. Fit a 4.155 bore pretty well.
It depends on your intended CR. I ran a cheap ROL head gasket the last run with the old 455 and it was fine. But it was a iron headed 9.3 CR deal. HOs with some good port work and that engine was 500 + HP. The 1016s are better but they have a 4.3 bore size. Wish it was a little smaller but you can't have everything, well....... unless you want to pay for it. 461 got 1016s and all is well. I do have a interesting pair of head gaskets on the shelf. They are Mr. Gasket MLS steels, 3250G with 4.2 bore size. Nice gaskets but the engine was torque plated with 1016s so I ran them. |

i got the return shipping label now....those 1016s aint cheap...looks like these 2 sets of 8518s will just cover the 1 set. I was really hoping that edelbrock really had their own gasket. im not sure how much my lil 406 is gonna make but i got a quite a bit of effort in zero decking trynna reach 10.5 cr.. ill still be short at 10.4 with 1016s but i think thats as good its getting.
i. not sure about these victor head gaskets..theyre actually in a kit i bought...has sone funky material oil pan gaskets in the box too. they maybe worse than tge 8518s....looks like 1016s or cometic from here on out |
