I looked, and THIS is the closest thread I could find about this subject;
That discussion was from last October (when I believe they filed for chapter 11).

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the following video;
I know that this YT personality isn't everyone's cup-o-tea, but I'm wondering if he doesn't make a really good point in the following video:

bankruptcy filing of First Brands has shifted from chapter 11 (which permits restructuring ect) to chapter 7 (which is liquidation of assets).

This YT'er suggest that this is going to dramatically affect competition, which has in and of itself helped to keep consumer prices down.
Some really big names are going to(?) disappear.

I think that it's probably a fair assessment that we all hoard up spare parts to a point, but I am wondering if this is going to create a seismic shift in the cost of this hobby.
I am also wondering if I should start ordering parts for my car(s) that I won't need for some time, and order service parts for years down the road.

Thoughts?

The brand names will most likely not disappear, they will just move along to another holding company.

At this point, with inflation as it is, having spare parts on the shelf for future use or to sell if not needed is probably better than money in the bank.

I've noticed a lot less Fram products on the shelves.

If you think you will need it, buy what you can, even if it ends up on a shelf. This is not going to get better for owners of older cars. I buy from auto parts stores daily, and they are feeling the shortage, so I do too. Several years ago Advance/Carquest pulled their name from the oil products and switched to Fram. With the Fram brand going out, the new product name is Argos. Meanwhile Fram products were deeply discounted, so I bought several cases of motor oil and 5 gallon containers of transmission fluid at fire sale prices. I don't know if the linked video mentions Cardone, but they were one of the victims also, as well as Raybestos. Makes me want to go out and buy a new vehicle with a kill switch. Not.

We used to have two Advance Auto Parts store in Rochester, MN.

They left two years ago.

Still have several in the Greater Louisville area. Just could be an opportunity to acquire enough air, oil and cabin air filters to fit out all of our vehicles for the foreseeable future( five at last count, not including the Cat and my wife’s Amigo project.).

This latest article states that PGI (Premium Guard who now supplies Napa filters) has purchased legacy Fram tooling, hopefully this indicates their desire to keep Fram as a standalone filter available in the market, time will tell.

It seems if they see a market someone always steps up to continue the product somehow.
