455 Crank Sprocket Plate?
I noticed on a video I saw that there was a plate installed over the crank sprocket. I'm not sure I have seen it anywhere else. Is this part required on my 455 build?

thats an oil slinger, I believe the factory stopped using them on or around 1967, im sure someone can correct me. But it is unneccessary, you dont need it. a 455 should not have one.

What the hell video are you watching!
That’s not a Pontiac V8 ! That motor has a distributor drive gear on the end of that Camshaft! I bet you where mistakenly looking at a video for a Buick 455, not a Pontiac 455.

What are you in need of going, degreeing your Cam, or just seeing how the timing marks on the two gears should be aligned?

What people usually miss / and or loose because there small are the hollow dowels that sleeve the two lower timing cover bolt holes and center the bottom of the timing cover on the crank..

Hmm I had to look twice. All the Pontiac V8 s I've torn down since 1967 I've never seen that slinger. 55 287, 60 389,61 62 389,65 421,67 428,69 400, 73 -4 SD455,76 79 400s. As was said another make,Buick.

ford big blocks used them too. never seen one on a Pontiac.
