Story kind of reminded me of driving my GTO in my teenage years. No money, not much knowledge, car would see treatment as a Jeep, "dragracer", "sportscar", moving van and living quarters. No cost fixes were always the first choice, if something broke....remove that something. Creature comforts were not even on the list of priorities. Spare electrical wire, baling wire, duct tape, adjustable wrench, channel-locs, wire cutters were the basic tool kit. Driven on deep sand beaches, jeep trails and 130 mph down the Interstate. The 68 was eight years old, had 90k miles, all original drivetrain, nothing rebuilt, all stock except for Holley carb and headers. Put about 27k miles on it in this fashion, never had to have it towed. Finally became problematic at about 117k and I had to actually start replacing and rebuilding things.
Kind of a "Rally Lifestyle" .. but of course when something did break, I could park it for a week until I felt like fixing it, unlike a Peking to Paris rally
