I haven't done it, but I don't see why it would be a problem in an A-body. The front half of the engine is ahead of the crossmember, so you should have plenty of room.

You can just buy generic flex lines online or from any Autozone, O'Reilly, etc. that have the appropriate fitting on the caliper side and then use the correct flare & fitting on the hardline side.

I just use a small trip of electrical tape. You can't really tell it's there unless you're specifically looking for it, and it protects the dash bezel from being scratched up.
